Apple TV Remote I have four Apple remotes for my apple tv's and three of the four Apple remotes have failed when trying to use the up button on the remote. I will be taking them back to the store this morning and hopefully Apple will provide me with three new Apple TV remotes. The fact that 3 of my 4 Apple TV remotes up button doesn't work tells me it is an Apple design flaw or the batch of Apple TV remotes I received shouldn't have passed quality control. Finally after a year of sticky/intermittent functioning of that button we pried the thing apart (another annoying thing about Apple is they make all their products impossible to get into and fix).

We discovered some sort of sticky glue over top of a button that wasn't seated correctly that could not be repaired. While I understand that manufacturing glitches happen, that is not my only issue with this remote.

Th Apple remotes (made for the computers and not the Apple TV) are made with Infrared not bluetooth. This means your laptop has to have a infrared receiver. The newer macs no longer have these receivers (at least the MacBooks don't) so the remotes no longer work. You can see that the older MacBooks (e.g. The 2010 macbook pro) has a black line on the front edge of the body which is the infrared receiver - it works on that. New ones don't have this and so don't have infrared built in.
